Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Jun 11 - 16)

Our current large to extra-large stormy swell event is only half way through, with a very strong and broad mid-latitude low currently sitting south-southwest of us, directing gale to severe-gale winds up and into us.

The low will drift slowly east this evening bringing these winds and fetch right onto the coast, keeping the South West up around a stormy 15-20ft tomorrow, 4-6ft in Mandurah and 3-5ft in Perth though with strong and slowly abating SW winds.

Unfortunately winds across all locations will remain onshore Wednesday and out of the W/SW as the swell continues to ease, with Thursday now looking average for Mandurah and Perth as winds tend more W-NW. Margs will see SW tending S/SW breezes with OK options in protected spots as the swell eases with 8ft sets, 2-3ft in Mandurah and 2ft in Perth.

Friday will see E/SE offshore winds around Perth and Mandurah but the swell will be smaller then and back to 2ft or so, still onshore in the South West.

It looks like we'll see onshore winds linger across the South West on Saturday with an offshore wind finally kicking in Sunday out of the E/NE.

Next week is looking much better across the South West with persistent offshore winds and good pulses of SW groundswell, large early in the week as a flurry of strong and slow moving frontal activity develops south-west of us.

Size wise we're looking at surf in the 10ft range Monday afternoon and Tuesday but we'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday.
