Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 7th January)

Best Days: Keen surfers South West magnets tomorrow morning, Monday morning next week and more so Tuesday next week

Recap

Fun clean 3-4ft leftovers on Saturday morning across the South West, with a new swell for Sunday and good winds again opening up plenty of options on the magnets. Mandurah was tiny and only 1-1.5ft, even smaller and effectively unsurfable around Perth.

Today started a little slow across the South West but a new swell filled in during the day, best just before sea breezes kicked in, while the swell is too south to impact Perth and Mandurah.

This week and weekend (Jan 8 - 13)

Today's small kick in S/SW groundswell will ease back across the South West tomorrow leaving smaller 3ft to maybe 4ft sets at south swell magnets with a morning SE breeze, that will likely tend E/SE for a period.

Wednesday will be cleaner but very small and easing from 2-3ft with an E/SE offshore ahead of sea breezes.

Unfortunately there's nothing significant for the rest of the week as the swell continues to fade through Thursday, bottoming out Friday morning.

A small background swell is due into Friday afternoon but to no major size at all, easing Saturday from 2-3ft with an E/NE morning offshore.

A very very inconsistent long-period SW groundswell should be in the mix Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, but again to no considerable size.

A weird and strengthening but quickly weakening front firing up north-east of the Heard Island region later this week will produce a burst of strong to near gale-force W/SW-SW winds in our western swell window, generating a moderate sized mid-period W/SW swell for Sunday afternoon and Monday.

We should see exposed breaks in the South West kicking to 4-6ft with a bit more strength to 5-6ft on Monday, easing slowly Tuesday. Mandurah should see 2ft surf, with small 1-2ft waves in Perth at the swells peak.

Winds unfortunately look dicey Monday and from the S/SE, but Tuesday looks better with a SE offshore. We'll have another look at this Wednesday.
