Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl
This week and weekend (Dec 6 – 9)
This afternoon we should see a new mid-period SW swell filling in across the state, peaking tomorrow morning to 6ft to occasionally 8ft on the South West reefs, 2ft to occasionally 3ft around Mandurah and 2ft in Perth.
Winds are a little tricky with a small low moving in from the west, resulting in onshore S/SW winds across Perth and Mandurah, while Margs should see variable winds ahead of a strengthening W/SW onshore.
As the swell eases further into Friday Margs looks to remain onshore from the S/SW-SW, cleaner to the north with a morning SE breeze and easing 2ft sets in Mandurah, 1-1.5ft in Perth.
Our larger SW groundswell for the weekend is still on track with a strong polar front forming around the Heard Island region this morning, with it forecast to project a great fetch of W/SW-SW gales up towards the south-west of the state tomorrow before weakening into Friday.
A large long-period SW groundswell should be seen, building Saturday and peaking into the mid-late afternoon to 8ft+ across the South West, 2-3ft in Mandurah and 2ft in Perth.
Conditions will be clean through the morning with a SE offshore, but afternoon sea breezes will spoil the peak in swell, while Sunday looks OK but not great with S/SE offshores and easing surf.
The swell will continue to ease into early next week but with morning S/SE-SE breezes, with only small mid-period surf due for the remainder of the week. We'll have a closer look at this Friday.

Nice images from our Margs cam this morning (all from one set.. how's the first one breaking on the outside reef!).
