Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 29th January)

Best Days: Swell magnets in the South West Tuesday and early Wednesday for desperate surfers

Recap

Poor conditions Saturday with onshore winds and a low point in swell, but into Sunday we saw some fun new SW swell fill in with S/SE winds, favouring semi-protected spots in the South West. Mandurah saw a kick to 1-2ft with favourable conditions.

The swell has started to ease into this morning with decent conditions across selected locations in the South West, tiny but clean to the north.

This week and weekend (Jan 30 - Feb 4)

Down, down, down. That's the trend from here with no new swell due at all this week.

Perth and Mandurah will become flat, while the South West magnets should be fun tomorrow, with a gusty E/SE-E breeze. It will be quite strong through the morning so offshore reefs will be choppy, though the swell will be small and easing from 3ft+ or so.

Wednesday looks smaller again with fading 2ft sets as strong E'ly winds continue, lighter into the afternoon.

Winds will tend more E/NE through Thursday and NE Friday but even the South West will become effectively flat with no new swell.

Into the weekend, a small pulse of SW groundswell is due to build later Saturday and peak Sunday morning, generated by a small right low dipping south-east through our swell window over the coming days.

A small fetch of W/SW gales are due to be generated, with the swell peaking Sunday morning to 3ft across the South West, tiny to the north. Winds are looking a little dicey for this swell, but we'll have another look at this Wednesday.

Longer term we may see a break to the swell drought mid-next week, but more on this Wednesday.
