Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 27th November)

Best Days: Keen surfers across the South West Thursday and Friday mornings

Recap

Tiny onshore waves for Saturday, while a new SW groundswell built through Sunday as winds remained offshore until late morning. The peak of the swell was seen into the afternoon, with the onshore winds.

The swell dropped back overnight leaving 4-5ft surf in the South West with favourable winds, while Perth and Mandurah remained on the tiny side.

This week and weekend (Nov 28 – Dec 3)

Our reinforcing S/SW swell due tomorrow morning has been shifted more towards later today, with a peak overnight, easing Tuesday. This was generated by a small but strong polar front passing in over the back of the polar low linked to yesterday afternoon's SW swell.

We should see the South West easing from 4-5ft tomorrow morning, while Perth and Mandurah are expected to remain tiny, only around 1ft+ or so.

Winds are looking average in any case as a weak front moves up towards the state, bringing SW tending W/SW winds across the South West (possibly S/SE at dawn around Perth/Mandurah).

Some small, weak mid-period SW swell is due off this front, building Wednesday afternoon and easing from a more S/SW direction Thursday.

Margs is only likely to come in around 4ft on the sets Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, tiny and 1ft to the north.

Winds will slowly improve Wednesday, swinging S-S/SE across the South West during the morning ahead of S/SW sea breezes. Slightly better SE winds are due Thursday as the weak swell fades, while Friday will be great with a straight E'ly offshore though fading 2-3ft sets max.

Longer term there's still nothing significant on the cards for our region, with a possible small swell for Sunday afternoon, and still no significant developments off the cyclone drifting south towards us.
