Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl
This weekend and next week (Nov 25 – Dec 1)
Looking ahead to the weekend, and there's no new swell due into tomorrow, and strengthening S/SE tending S/SW winds will create average conditions in any case.
Sunday's lift in swell is on track, with a strong polar frontal system developing south-west of us later yesterday, with a good fetch of W/SW gales being generated through our south-western swell window.
A moderate to large sized SW groundswell should be produced, building through the day and peaking into the afternoon.
Exposed breaks in the South West should read 5-6ft+ through the afternoon, with building sets to 2ft in Mandurah, 1-2ft in Perth.
Winds are looking better for Sunday now as a ridge of high pressure moves in from the west, creating E/SE offshore breezes across most locations trough the morning ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
The swell will ease back into Monday likely from 4-5ft+ across the South West, 1-2ft Mandurah and 1-1.5ft Perth though with less favourable S/SE winds as an inland surface trough to our east deepens.
Therefore make the most of Sunday morning's conditions.
A small reinforcing S/SW swell is expected Tuesday morning, produced by secondary much smaller front moving in behind the initial broad polar low.
No decent size is expected across Mandurah or Perth from this swell, but the South West should hang in around 5ft on the sets before easing into the afternoon and further Wednesday and Thursday.
This easing trend will be slowed by some very weak mid-period SW swell filling in owing to a weak front projecting towards us early in the week. This front will interfere with out winds though, with onshore W/SW tending S/SW breezes Tuesday and Wednesday, improving Thursday.
Longer term there's no major swells showing from the Southern Ocean, and a possible tropical cyclone forming off our North West doesn't look to generate any meaningful swell at this point in time. Catchya Monday, have a great weekend!
