Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 13th November)

Best Days: Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning South West magnets

Recap

Strong increase in W/SW groundswell through Saturday morning, a little undersized at dawn but solid on the sets across the South West with favourable winds. The swell dropped back into Sunday across the South West, while Mandurah and Perth offered more size than the morning before following the increase in new swell.

Conditions were average though with gusty S/SW winds.

Today the surf was back up a touch with a new SW swell, providing 4-6ft waves across the South West and 2ft to the north with workable S/SE winds.

This week and weekend (Nov 14 - 19)

Today's SW groundswell should peak this afternoon and drop back through the coming days, tailing off from 4-5ft tomorrow morning in the South West, 2ft in Mandurah on the sets and 1-2ft around Perth.

Wednesday will be smaller while the swell will bottom out into Thursday.

Winds look good over the coming days, swinging SE to possibly E/SE at times across Margs tomorrow, E/SE further north, while Wednesday should see straight offshore E'ly winds.

As the swell bottoms out Thursday morning E/NE-NE winds will favour magnets across the South West but there'll be lucky to be 2-3ft sets left.

A pulse of new swell for Friday, mentioned last update is still on the cards, though it looks to be with onshore winds as a trough moves in from the west.

A polar low currently in the Heard Island region is generating a good fetch of W/SW gales through our south-western swell window, with a small to moderate sized SW groundswell arriving for Friday.

The South West should see 4-6ft sets, though inconsistent with 1-2ft waves around Mandurah and 1-1.5ft sets in Perth. The trough will bring N/NW tending W winds as it pushes across us, and this will also signal the start of a series of fronts pushing up and into us.

We'll see onshore winds all weekend with building levels of groundswell through early next week at the same time that a high moves in, hopefully swinging winds S/SE. We'll have a closer look at this Wednesday though.
