Easing surf with some new fun swell from Sunday
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 1st March)
Best Days: Tomorrow morning keen surfers in the South West, Sunday morning, Monday morning protected spots
Recap
A slight kick in SW groundswell yesterday to the 4ft range across the South West, while Perth and Mandurah saw a touch more size as well.
This morning the 'best' pulse of swell was seen with 4-5ft waves across the South West under favourable winds, 1-1.5ft Mandurah and 1-2ft Perth.
This week and weekend (Mar 2 - 5)
The swell has already started to ease a little from this morning and we'll see this trend continue through tomorrow, further Friday, bottoming out Saturday.
Winds tomorrow look SE across the South West, with straighter E'ly breezes to the north. Size wise it will be tiny to the north, with easing 3ft+ sets in the South West.
Friday will see average S/SE tending S/SW winds, similar Saturday, but likely tending a little more SE through the morning. There'll be no swell to take advantage of in any case.
Into Sunday and Monday, our inconsistent mix of long-range and medium-range W/SW-SW groundswell are still on track, with a slow moving polar frontal progression moving through the southern Indian Ocean.
This progression will split and race ahead of itself a little, resulting in two distinct pulses of groundswell. The best increase looks to be Sunday, with a fetch of W'ly gales this evening and tomorrow in our south-west swell window due to produce the most consistent pulse.
The swell should fill in Sunday and come in at 4-5ft across the South West with Perth and Mandurah increasing to 1-2ft through the day.
Monday will be a little less consistent but more W/SW in direction, coming in around a similar size, before easing slowly Tuesday and Wednesday.
A SE offshore is expected on Sunday morning ahead of sea breezes with less favourable S/SE winds Monday and Tuesday.
Longer term there's nothing too major due next week besides a small mid-period S/SW swell Friday, better from the following week. More on this Friday.
