Fun S/SW swells for magnets in the South West
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 22nd February)
Best Days: Thursday morning South West magnets, the South West Friday and Saturday mornings, South West Wednesday morning
Recap
Poor conditions yesterday with small onshore surf, building through the afternoon, but holding this morning as conditions cleaned up north of Margs. Mandurah saw clean 2-3ft waves, with 2ft surf around Perth, while Margs was a bumpy 5-6ft.
This week and weekend (Feb 23 – 26)
An offshore E/SE wind will develop across the South West tomorrow morning but there isn't due to be much size left.
We should see 3-4ft sets, tiny further north around Perth and Mandurah.
Our new S/SW groundswells due into later tomorrow, Friday and Saturday morning are still on track.
Currently a strong polar frontal progression is moving through our southern swell window, with an initial fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW winds, followed by a secondary burst this evening and early tomorrow.
The first pulse of swell is due to arrive tomorrow afternoon, kicking to 4-5ft later in the day holding Friday morning, before the second pulse kicks later in the day to a similar size, easing from 3-5ft Saturday morning. Perth isn't due to see any major size at all with tiny 1-1.5ft waves max Friday.
Winds on Friday morning are looking good again with an E/SE offshore developing through the morning ahead of sea breezes, while Saturday is looking more variable but from the E/NE-NE before sea breezes kick in.
Sunday isn't looking too good as a surface trough moves in from the west bringing increasing S/SW winds.
Next week onwards (Feb 27 onwards)
Onshore winds look to linger through Monday, while a small new mid-period SW swell is expected to build Tuesday and peak early Wednesday.
This will be actually two swells produced by weak frontal systems projecting towards us through later this week and weekend.
Winds will swing offshore Tuesday morning with small 3ft waves in the South West, tiny around Perth, with Wednesday morning offering the most size to 4-5ft and 1ft+ respectively with a morning SE'ly.
Beyond this there's nothing major to get excited about, so try and surf the South West over the coming days.
