Best Days: The South West Tuesday morning, Friday morning protected spots, Saturday morning
Recap
OK waves in the South West with a light SSW breeze and easing 3-4ft sets Saturday morning, while Perth was cleaner with small leftover 1ft to sometimes 2ft sets.
Sunday was smaller and onshore, leaving no decent options for a wave.
Today a new SW groundswell was on the coast but conditions remained poor in the South West with a fresh SW breeze, while Mandurah saw nice clean 2ft waves (1-2ft in Perth).
This week (Jan 24 – 29)
This morning's SW swell should ease off through tomorrow but conditions will be much better across the South West with a light E'ly offshore ahead of mid-late afternoon sea breezes.
Sets should still be coming in 3-4ft+ across the South West tomorrow, while Perth is due to be tiny and best for beginners.
Wednesday is looking smaller again but with a morning SE offshore wind across the South West.
From Thursday small pulses of SW groundswell are due across the South West, generated by persistent but weak mid-latitude fronts passing through our swell window.
The first bit of activity isn't that significant and is only due to provide 3-4ft sets max Thursday across the South West, with a slightly stronger pulse Friday from a slight burst in the wind strengths. Sets to 3-5ft are due, while the best pulse looks to be Saturday. Perth is due to remain tiny.
This will be produced by a slower moving and sustained fetch of strong to near gale-force W/SW winds towards us, peaking around 4-6ft, and 1-1.5ft in Perth, easing off Sunday.
Winds on Thursday look to continue from the SE through the morning, with a S/SE'ly Friday. Saturday looks cleanest with an offshore E/SE breeze, back to the S'th Sunday.
Longer term another small pulse of SW groundswell is due Monday, but beyond this there's nothing too major on the cards at all through next week. More on this Wednesday.
