Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 9th December)

Best Days: Keen surfers Sunday morning in the South West, dawn Monday, Thursday morning swell magnets

Recap

Excellent waves across the state yesterday with a large clean SW groundswell coming in either side of 10ft in the South West and 3ft around Mandurah and 2-3ft in Perth.

Winds remained favourable until about midday in the South West and Mandurah ahead of sea breezes, while Perth hung on a touch longer.

Today the swell was half the size of yesterday with clean easing 4-5ft sets in the South West and 1-2ft waves further north.

This weekend (Dec 10 - 11)

After the last two days of surf the weekend isn't looking too special.

Tomorrow will be smaller with tiny waves around Perth and small fading 3ft sets at magnets. A SE breeze will also limit surfing options.

Sunday's inconsistent W/SW groundswell is still on track but winds aren't ideal. We should see the exposed reefs in the South West coming in around 4-6ft (1-1.5ft in Perth) but the winds are now looking a little dicey.

A dawn S'ly is due to tend variable around Margs ahead of S/SW sea breezes.

Next week onwards (Dec 12 onwards)

Monday should become clean again as a small low forms off our coast resulting in an early E/SE offshore, but the low is due to push east through the morning bringing S'ly winds back to the coast.

Easing 4-5ft+ waves are due in the South West with tiny waves to the north.

Tuesday isn't looking too flash as a strong and slow moving high ridges across the coast, bringing S/SE winds as the W/SW swell continues to slowly ease.

Conditions should start improving from Wednesday as the high keeps moving east, but only small background SW groundswell is due.

Margs should see 3-4ft sets Wednesday, easing Thursday and bottoming out Friday morning.

SE offshores are due Wednesday morning, more E'ly Thursday and then back to the SE Friday.

A slight pulse of small S/SW groundswell may be seen Friday but besides this, there's nothing major on the cards with the strong high shutting down our swell window. More on this Monday, have a great weekend!
