Average week, good Sunday
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 14th Novemeber)
Best Days: Friday morning, Sunday in protected spots
Recap
Onshore waves to kick off the weekend with no major size, (clean and to 1ft in Perth), while Sunday saw better conditions in the South West with clean 3-5ft sets on the reefs and more size into the afternoon. Perth was tiny and clean again.
The new swell peaked overnight and we've got clean easing 4-5ft sets across the South West today but only 1-1.5ft sets to the north.
This week (Nov 15 – 18)
A low point in swell is due tomorrow morning, with 3-4ft sets due across the South West and tiny waves to the north, but early fresh N/NE winds will give into an onshore change mid-morning, so the window of decent surf will be severely limited.
Distant levels of W/SW groundswell are due to build tomorrow afternoon and peak Wednesday but winds will remain onshore from the W (light early) before strengthening from the SW with an approaching front.
This front was expected to develop into an intense mid-latitude low off our coast, but this isn't due to happen any more, with a mix of weak windswell for Wednesday afternoon and mid-period W/SW swell Thursday.
Size wise we're only looking at 4-5ft+ waves across the South West and 1-1.5ft in Perth but with onshore W/SW winds. Perth should see an early SE'ly for beginners.
Friday is expected to be cleaner with a light offshore wind and easing 3-5ft waves around Margs.
This weekend onwards (Nov 19 onwards)
Saturday morning isn't looking too flash as we fall in between swells and winds look a touch dicey.
Into Sunday though a new long-range W/SW groundswell is expected to fill in, produced by a broad and slow moving low through the southern Indian Ocean over the coming days.
An initial pre-frontal fetch of W/NW gales should produce a lift in W/SW swell Saturday afternoon, but a better fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds projected closer towards us will generate a larger W/SW groundswell for Sunday.
A peak is due through the day, with large consistent 6-8ft waves in the South West and 10ft sets, while Perth should offer 2ft+ waves.
Conditions are looking decent but not great with a S/SE breeze, but we'll confirm this on Wednesday.
