Small weekend, large strong swell mid-week with light winds
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 21st October)
Best Days: Saturday swell magnets in the South West, Wednesday Perth and likely Margs, Thursday both coasts,
Recap
Nothing special yesterday with small to tiny surf across all locations and average winds for the most part.
Today however, a new S/SW swell and offshore winds has provided fun surf in the 5ft range across the South West with 1-2ft sets around Mandurah, tiny further north.
This weekend and next week (Oct 22 - 28)
Today's S/SW groundswell is expected to become smaller into tomorrow but winds will be ideal for swell magnets across the South West with a fresh E/NE tending NE breeze, lighter from the N'th into the afternoon. Sets are only due to be in the 3-4ft range. Perth will be tiny.
Our new SW groundswell for Sunday afternoon is still on track but by the time it starts building winds are due to go onshore.
An early NE wind is expected to swing onshore from the W/NW late morning, then fresh W/SW into the afternoon.
Early the swell is expected to be small and around 3ft+, kicking to 4-5ft into the afternoon but with those onshore winds. Perth will be tiny.
The swell is expected to be replaced by some distant and inconsistent W/SW groundswell Monday but onshore S/SW-SW winds will continue to create poor conditions, similar into Tuesday.
Our large and powerful S/SW groundswell due for Wednesday, is now expected to come from a slightly better SW direction due to the polar low generating the swell taking a slightly more northern track.
This low, which is expected to form in the Heard Island region Saturday evening, will project a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds up towards the Bight early next week, with a large long-period SW groundswell impacting us Wednesday.
The swell should peak through the middle of the day around Margs, into the afternoon up in Perth with surf in the 10ft range around the former (larger offshore bommies) and 2-3ft around Perth.
Winds are looking a little dicey for the South West with a light variable and onshore wind likely from the SW, with cleaner conditions around Perth.
Thursday looks similar, with more of a chance of a local offshore around Margs, but we'll review this Monday.
Longer term another large and more consistent W/SW groundswell is on the cards for later in the week/following weekend, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
Comments
Jeez it's PACKED on the beach at Trigg/Contacio this morning.
Yes Ben here comes summer and rubbish waves in Perth (not sure we can ever call it good though)! Most of the crew on the beach at 2nd's look like clubbies...saving us all. There was the odd fat little one (wave that is) down at Brighton and the banks look like they wouldn't hold much bigger. Not looking good.
City of Stirling need to spend the millions on creating banks with a front end loader by pushing out sand points every hundred meters rather than on a chlorinated swimming pool taking up all the beach parking just so wankers can parade around in their sluggos...hang on a minute isn't that what the clubbies do!
its been an extended winter
