Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th June)

Best Days: Tuesday onwards next week

Recap

Poor onshore waves across the South West and small swell yesterday, while cleaner fun 1-2ft sets were seen to the north.

Today a good new pulse of SW groundswell along with offshores created good clean 6ft surf around Margs. Perth and Mandurah were smaller to 1-2ft (1-1.5ft Perth) with funky winds.

This weekend and next week (Jun 11 - 17)

The weekend unfortunately isn't looking too flash with a drop in swell from today and strengthening N'ly winds will create poor conditions (NE early around Perth but likely only 1-1.5ft).

Sunday will then start slow with poor NW winds, but they may tend more variable as a weakening mid-latitude low moves across us. It's looking to be quite a dynamic day so keep an eye on local observations.

Into the afternoon a new W/SW swell is due, generated by a small intense mid-latitude low that's currently formed north-east of Heard Island.

This low doesn't look to be as intense as forecast on Wednesday with only a moderate sized kick due Sunday afternoon to 4-5ft in the South West and 1-2ft in Perth.

A drop in size is then due into Monday along with fresh SW tending S/SE winds.

Through next week moderate pulses of SW groundswell are due from persistent but not overly strong of favourably aligned polar frontal activity.

Each pulse looks to be fairly similar in size to 4-6ft or so in the South West and only 1-1.5ft around Perth. The first is due Tuesday, with a secondary for Wednesday and then a slightly stronger mix Thursday (possibly showing the odd bigger set above 6ft in the South West).

Slow easing surf is then due from Friday further into next weekend.

Conditions are looking great from Tuesday as a slow moving high pressure system to our east directs morning offshore E'ly winds across the state without much strength, tending variable each afternoon from around Wednesday.

Longer term a blocking setup will result in a slow run in swell, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
