Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 14th December)

Best Days: Tuesday morning desperate surfers swell magnets in the South West, Thursday morning in the South West, possibly Friday morning both coasts, Sunday morning swell magnets in the South West

Recap

A very light variable breeze Saturday morning with an easing swell from 3ft across swell magnets in the South West, while Perth and Mandurah were tiny. Onshore winds created poor conditions with an even smaller swell Sunday, while today an offshore wind cleaned up a small 2-3ft waves in the South West.

This week (Dec 15 - 18)

Offshore winds are due again tomorrow morning but we're looking at only a very minimal amount of swell, possibly to 2-3ft at swell magnets in the South West.

From Wednesday some new pulses of SW and W/SW groundswell are due to fill in across the South West, from a broad but relatively weak and unconsolidated polar low that's currently west-southwest of the state.

An initial SW pulse through Wednesday is expected, building to 4-5ft into the afternoon with a better kick from the W/SW through Thursday to 5-6ft, easing from a similar size Friday morning. The best pulse for Perth is due Thursday afternoon to 1-2ft, holding a similar size Friday before fading Saturday.

Conditions on Wednesday will be average with onshore S/SW breezes, while Thursday morning should see SE offshores across Margs (E/SE up at Perth). Friday is looking a little dicey now with variable breezes likely, but if not, a freshening S/SW'ly looks to create deteriorating conditions. Check back here Wednesday for an update on this.

This weekend onwards (Dec 18 onwards)

A steady drop in swell is due through the weekend with average S/SE winds Saturday and better offshore E/SE breezes Sunday but with no real size left, with fading 3ft+ sets across swell magnets in the South West.

Longer term we may see a moderate sized SW swell developing for mid-next week, but we'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday.

Looking at the American model yes, size wise, but winds and the swell direction aren't ideal still.

The European version is worse with less swell.
