Average outlook until late next week
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 13th March)
Best Days: Saturday at exposed breaks around Margs, Thursday and Friday
Recap
A slight kick in size across the South West yesterday with offshore winds and weak sea breezes, while Perth only saw tiny 1-1.5ft waves, as expected.
Today the swell is easing away under favourable offshore winds, and unfortunately there's not much due over the weekend.
This weekend and next week (Mar 14 - 20)
The surf will gradually back off over the weekend, with a long-range background SW groundswell tomorrow due to offer infrequent 3ft sets across swell magnets in the South West, becoming tiny into Sunday.
Winds are only due to be favourable tomorrow morning now with fresh E'ly offshores around Perth and Margs, onshore from the NW tending W'ly around Gero as ex-tropical cyclone Olwyn drifts south. Come Sunday onshore W'ly winds are due across all locations.
The start of next week isn't very inspiring with small to tiny amounts of swell due to continue owing to a blocking pattern through our swell window to our west and variable tending W'ly winds due to a weak W'ly pressure gradient across the coast.
A mid-latitude front that was expected to push into us on Wednesday has been weakened and will move through Tuesday, but offer no major size at all.
A secondary much stronger polar front pushing up from the Heard Island region, up towards the Bight should produce a much needed increase in better S/SW groundswell through Thursday.
A fetch of W/SW tending SW gales will be generated through our swell window, with a moderate to large groundswell expected to be produced for the South West, peaking Thursday afternoon/evening to 6-8ft with Perth pulsing late to 2ft and Gero 3ft (peaking Friday morning to 3-5ft.
Winds Thursday don't look too flash with light variable S/SE breezes early ahead of afternoon sea breezes. Friday looks to be the day on the backside of the swell with a morning E/NE offshore (we'll review this Monday though).
Have a great weekend (away from the surf)!

Really looking forward to Thursday
Indeed, looks like there'll be an upgrade in size in this afternoon's notes as well.
