Average Thursday, fun Friday, good Tuesday morning
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 22nd October)
Best Days: Friday morning, Monday morning, Tuesday morning
Recap
Yesterday was average around Perth with a tiny swell but Gero and Margs offered good waves at exposed breaks with morning offshores.
A strong new SW groundswell due this morning was a little late in arrival but has since pulsed strongly in the South West with large inconsistent 6-8ft sets across exposed breaks (right). Conditions were great all morning with a fresh to strong offshore wind but this has since swung more NE favouring only a select few breaks. Perth and Gero were slow and small early, with onshores up north and early offshore tending NW winds around Perth.
This week (Oct 23 - 24)
Today's kick in inconsistent but strong SW groundswell is due to ease through tomorrow and conditions will be poor with fresh W/SW tending S'ly winds in the wake of today's change.
Friday will be the day to surf as winds swing offshore from the East across all locations but the swell will be smaller and easing from 3-5ft in the South West, 1-2ft around Perth and 3ft+ up at Gero.
This weekend onwards (Oct 25 onwards)
Onshore winds are expected to set in again through Saturday as an inland surface trough starts to strengthen, with light to moderate but freshening S/SW winds due around Perth and Gero, with W/NW winds down in Margs.
These onshores will persist into Sunday from the SW as a cold front moves in, spoiling a new SW groundswell pulse.
Luckily the peak in SW groundswell is due Monday, generated by the cold front bringing the fresh SW winds with the South West due to see 6ft+ waves at exposed breaks, 2ft surf in Perth and 3-5ft waves up in Gero from midday onwards.
Winds will swing more favourable in the wake of the front Sunday but remain less than perfect and blow from the SE.
Tuesday looks like the day with stronger E/SE winds and easing but fun levels of swell.
In the wake of Monday's SW groundswell there's nothing major on the cards unfortunately but winds will remain favourable and offshore from the E/SE each morning at least into the following weekend.
We'll have another look at this on Friday though.
