Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 30th of May)

Best Days: Saturday morning in the South West, Perth and Gero Sunday and Monday, everywhere Tuesday and Wednesday

Recap

Conditions improved for protected locations down in the South West yesterday with a fresh southerly wind, while Perth and Gero faired better with morning offshores.

Today was the day to surf though with an expected new W/SW groundswell under offshore winds pushed in, coming in at a clean 6ft to occasionally 8ft at exposed breaks in the South West, 2-3ft in Perth and 4-5ft around Gero. Winds have remained favourable into the afternoon creating a great full day of surfing.

This weekend (May 31 – Jun 1)

Saturday morning will be the only real decent time to surf over the weekend in the South West as winds swing from an early NE'ly around to the N'th during the day, although Perth and Gero should see slightly more favourable N/NE winds into the arvo.

Today's swell will ease slowly but there'll still be good sets on offer early.

Sunday looks average even with the arrival of a new W/SW groundswell as winds swing from the N/NW around to the W/NW in the South West. Perth and Gero should be workable in the morning again with a NE breeze before swinging weak onshore into the afternoon.

Next Monday onwards (Jun 2 onwards)

A peak in W/SW groundswell is due on Monday morning, generated by a flurry of relatively weak frontal activity to our west-southwest today and tomorrow. A better pulse is due Tuesday though as a deepening mid-latitude low moves in from the south-west kicking up a good SW groundswell to 6ft+ in the South West, 2ft+ in Perth and 3-5ft around Gero.

Winds will also be better around Margs on Tuesday (after weak onshores Monday) with offshore E'ly winds expected across most of the state. The swell is due to dip quickly into Wednesday as a result of the low moving quickly through our swell window and winds will swing more N'ly again, favouring selected breaks.

As we move into the end of the week we should see another good pulse of W/SW groundswell as the progression of mid-latitude fronts continue through the Indian Ocean. This looks to be met with offshore winds as well, but we'll take another look at this on Monday. Have a great weekend!
