Pumping Tuesday, smaller windows to end the week
Victoria Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 3rd August)
Best Days: Tuesday Surf Coast, Thursday morning Surf Coast, early Friday Surf Coast, Saturday morning Surf Coast, Sunday east of Melbourne
Recap
Small average onshore start to the weekend, with a strong new W/SW groundswell building through the afternoon but with no decent options for a wave.
Yesterday morning however, the swell peaked under offshore winds across the Surf Coast, with clean pumping 4-6ft surf on the reefs.
A larger SW groundswell is filling in today, but fresh to strong W/SW winds from dawn have limited the best waves to protected spots across the Victorian coast.
This week (Aug 4 - 7)
Today's large SW groundswell will ease back through tomorrow and further into Wednesday but with excellent offshore NW winds tomorrow, and an early onshore change Wednesday morning.
The Surf Coast should ease back from the 5-6ft range with 8ft sets on the Mornington Peninsula while Wednesday will be the low point in activity before a new SW groundswell starts building through the afternoon.
This groundswell will be generated by the final vigorous frontal system being projected up and into us by the Long Wave Trough, with the front escaping the swell a touch as it races up and into us.
We should still see a large SW groundswell generated, building Wednesday afternoon, peaking early Thursday and easing into the end of the week and weekend.
The Surf Coast should see 4-6ft surf with 8ft sets on the Mornington Peninsula with a morning W/NW breeze on the Surf Coast, swinging W/SW through the day. Friday should also see a morning W/NW'ly before swinging SW through the mid-late morning.
This weekend onwards (Aug 8 onwards)
A couple of small inconsistent SW groundswell is due on Saturday and Sunday with light NW winds for the Surf Coast Saturday and offshore N'ly winds for the Mornington Peninsula Sunday.
A slightly bigger groundswell is on the cards for Monday but only to 2-3ft on the Surf Coast and 4-6ft on the Mornington Peninsula. We'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday though.
Comments
Craig looks like I might finally get a wave on the MP this weekend nice and close to home. Offshore 4 foot Sunday?
Yep, finally a window for the east, haha.
Don't write off Saturday arvo either, winds should go variable.
