Recap
A strong pulse of S/SW groundswell was seen through yesterday with light winds and glassy conditions, favouring selected spots.
This morning is clean again but smaller and more manageable across Clifton.
This week and weekend (May 23 - 26)
The current swell will continue to ease into tomorrow morning, but come Friday, our next pulse of moderate sized energy is due, generated by a healthy polar low that’s been passing under the country.
We should see Clifton come in at 3-4ft but the main issue are the local winds.
A trough will bring a gusty S/SW change mid-morning tomorrow, with Friday unfortunately due to see lingering moderate S/SW-SW winds, easing further into the afternoon.
It won’t be great but there should be something to hunt after lunch.
Saturday looks much better with a N/NW tending variable wind as the swell eased back from 2-3ft across Clifton.
The down trend won’t be long, with some good reinforcing S/SW swell energy due Sunday as a strengthening frontal system fires up south of us tomorrow.
A kick back to 3ft should be seen across Clifton later Saturday and Sunday morning, easing through the day and down from 2ft Monday with W winds.
Conditions will remain favourable with morning offshores, tending variable into the afternoons.
Now, as touched on last update, the longer term outlook sees smaller, trickier west swells arriving from strong storms pushing towards Western Australia.
None of these look significant at this stage, but more on this Friday.
