Recap

A continuation of tiny surf yesterday and today, with more action due from the weekend.

This weekend and next week (Mar 2 - 8)

Looking at tomorrow and we've got a mix of W/SW swell energy due across Clifton, the first generated by a distant polar low, while some closer-range, more consistent swell has been generated by a frontal system that's currently tracking in from the west.

Surf to 3ft+ is due through most of tomorrow but with moderate to fresh W/SW winds, easing a little into the afternoon. While not great there should be OK options.

The swell is due to ease temporarily into Sunday morning, likely not below 2-3ft and with a window of W/NW winds.

We then look at the rapidly deepening low following the current frontal system.

This low now looks to move a little quicker than forecast earlier in the week, but with a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW tending SW winds moving up through our south-western swell window tomorrow, then stalling very slightly in our southern swell window Sunday, we should see a rapid increase in size later Sunday from the SW, with large reinforcing levels of S'ly swell Monday.

Size wise, it looks like Clifton should reach 6ft later afternoon, a little bigger on dark, with Monday coming in around 6ft most of the day, easing later.

We then should see a strong, reinforcing S/SE groundswell for Tuesday, generated on the southern flank of the low when it's south-east of us Monday, and this should maintain 4-5ft surf into Tuesday before easing Wednesday from the 3ft range.

Coming back to the local winds and Sunday morning's W/NW breeze will shift strong W/SW by later morning and then SW into the afternoon, with strong but easing S/SW winds Monday morning, shifting S/SE later in the day.

Tuesday will see winds quickly shift around to the N'th, with sea breezes possible, if not tending E/NE and freshening.

Following this, the outlooks slower until next weekend when some small W/SW swell arrives. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
