Fun weekend of surf
Southern Tasmanian Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday February 4th)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday, Monday morning
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Easing S/SE swell tomorrow with variable N/NE tending S/SE winds
- Small S/SW swell Sun with E/NE winds, increasing
- Fading SW swell Mon with N/NE tending gusty E/NE winds
Recap
Good levels of S'ly swell the last two days in the 2-3ft range with better than expected winds each morning. We should see a stronger pulse of swell hitting 3ft to possibly 4ft later today though with that fresh SE sea breeze.
This week and next (Feb 5 - 11)
Later today's pulse of stronger S/SE groundswell is due to ease through tomorrow, down from 2ft to possibly 3ft along with variable N/NW winds ahead of S/SE sea breezes.
The low responsible for the swell has left our swell window, but a weaker polar front moving in from the south-west is generating a reinforcing pulse of S/SW swell for Sunday.
This should maintain 2ft sets across Clifton with light E/NE winds, freshening into the afternoon.
Make the most of these swells as from Monday the energy will fade from 1-1.5ft, bottoming out through next week as the Southern Ocean falls quiet.
Longer term we may see a small to tiny pulse of W/SW swell Friday from a south-east dipping mid-latitude low from the Bight but we'll have a closer look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
