Recap

A continuation of tiny surf with favourable winds for selected locations.

This week and weekend (Jan 27 - 30)

Tiny to flat conditions will continue into the end of the week and winds will strengthen from the N/NE tending NE tomorrow ahead of a trough which will bring a shallow S/SE change just after dawn Friday. Winds will strengthen into the afternoon but there'll be no swell to worry about.

Winds will remain fresh from the S/SW into Saturday, shifting S/SE through the afternoon ahead of our new, inconsistent W/SW groundswell on Sunday.

The swell is being generated by a strong though distant polar low that formed around the Heard Island region yesterday afternoon and evening. A great fetch of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds are being produced, with the low due to weaken while pushing east into tomorrow.

The swell will be inconsistent but should provide 2ft sets across Clifton as winds shift N/NE into the morning Sunday, trying to tend E/NE through the afternoon but possibly going variable.

Easing surf should be seen Monday with strengthening N/NE tending NE winds ahead of a small pulse of new S/SW swell Tuesday.

This has popped up on the radar, generated by a tight polar low that's forecast to form south-west of us on the weekend. It'll be very intense but tracking east-southeast and forming late, producing a small kick in size to 1-2ft Tuesday morning.

Conditions look favourable with a NE breeze, tending variable ahead of a trough and change into the evening, leaving strong S/SW-SW winds on Wednesday.

We may see the trough form into a low kicking up some small S'ly windswell through the end of next week but check back here Friday for more on this.
