Southern Tasmanian Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday October 8th)

Best Days: No good days

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Tiny W/SW swells building Sun with gusty SW winds, easing Mon with fresh SW tending S/SW winds

Recap

Nothing of note yesterday, while today our tiny, new swell has provided the odd little runner for beginners.

This weekend and next week (Oct 9 – 15)

Unfortunately the coming outlook remains poor and void of any swell with size, power or intensity. The East Coast will however see a bit of size, so check their Forecaster Notes out.

But back to our region and expect a run of tiny to flat surf over the coming period, only lifting slightly on Sunday afternoon, fading through Monday and with poor winds.

This will be as a weak frontal progression come trough moves in from the west, with no size above 1-1.5ft expected through Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.

Winds will be fresh from the SW on Sunday afternoon when the swell starts to build, then SW tending S/SW on Monday. Tuesday will be clean but any swell easing from 1ft.

Longer term mid-latitude lows and fronts will dominate southern Australia which remains poor for swell generation in the protected South Arm. Unfortunately there's no let up to this pattern in the coming weeks but we'll keep a close eye on this. Have a great weekend!
