Poor run of surf
Southern Tasmanian Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday October 6th)
Best Days: Beginners Friday
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Tiny, inconsistent W/SW swell for Fri with N/NW tending NW winds, fading Sat with NW winds
- Small W/SW swell building Sun with NW tending fresh SW winds, easing Mon with S/SW winds
Recap
Fun, clean 2ft waves holding out of the S/SE yesterday morning, giving into weak sea breezes, while today is smaller and weaker, fading out of the S/SE.
This week and weekend (Oct 7 – 10)
The surf will bottom out tomorrow with a W/SW change due to move through before dawn, creating poor conditions.
Our tricky, small and inconsistent W'ly swell for Friday is still just that. It was generated by a tight low positioned in our medium-range westerly swell window and we're only expecting 1ft+ surf with the rare 2ft'er for the lucky and patient.
Conditions will be cleaner though with a moderate N/NW breeze that's due to hold into the afternoon.
The swell will fade into Saturday with clean conditions, while a weakening low moving across us Sunday should generate some new W/SW swell for the afternoon, easing Monday.
Again it doesn't look to offer any real size or power with onshore, building surf to 2ft Sunday afternoon, easing from 2ft Monday morning but with lingering S/SW winds.
Tuesday morning looks cleaner but the surf will be tiny.
Longer term the outlook remains void of any major swell activity with mid-latitude lows and troughs moving across the country, and no strong polar frontal activity. More on this in the coming updates though. The East Coast will offer more options so check out their forecast.
