Recap

Our small pulse of S-S/SE swell due yesterday was reported at a tiny 0.5ft, with more size reported today when it was expected to be easing.

This weekend and next week (July 17 - 23)

Any swell seen today will fade tomorrow and we then look at the inconsistent W/SW groundswell on Sunday.

The polar low linked to this swell fired up in our medium range swell window Wednesday, breaking down yesterday. The swell should build through the day, peaking into the afternoon with inconsistent 2ft+ waves due across Clifton with possible 3ft sets at the swells peak along with W'ly winds. Protected spots will be best though smallest.

Monday will become cleaner with a N/NW offshore but the swell will be easing from 2ft.

Later in the day Monday we may see a better W/SW groundswell arriving, with it due to peak Tuesday. This has been upgraded since Wednesday with a nice polar low due to fire up under the country tomorrow. A slim though good fetch of W/SW gales will project east, stalling south-west of us Sunday, prolonging the swell.

The bulk of the swell should be seen Tuesday, providing 3ft sets, holding Wednesday but with onshore winds. Coming back to Tuesday though and we should see a dawn N/NW breeze, though giving into a strong S/SW change by mid-late morning, followed by another W/SW change on Wednesday.

Some mid-period S/SW swell will arrive with Wednesday's change but likely not above the size of the groundswell, easing into the afternoon and further Thursday. We should see reinforcing pulses of swell in the 2ft range Thursday and Friday with more favourable offshore winds, but we'll have a closer look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
