Poor winds and swell
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 9th June)
Best Days: Saturday morning for the keen
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Poor S windswell tomorrow, tending SE through Fri, easing slowly Sat
- Strong S/SE winds tomorrow, moderate SE on Fri and light S on Sat AM
Recap
Clean, easing surf yesterday back from 1-1.5ft but fun on the right board while today we've got an onshore change and poor quality windswell.
This week and weekend (Jun 10 – 13)
The strong, cold weather is linked to a deep pool of cold air being advected up across the south-east of the country yesterday, then spawning a broad low that's deepening to our north-east.
This is directing strong S/SE winds into the eastern part of the state with them due to continue through tomorrow, creating poor conditions.
The stalling and slow moving nature of the low will see onshore winds persist through Friday, moderate from the SE and then more variable out of the S'th on Saturday.
Swell wise though, the position of the low will be too far north to generate any major size with weak 2ft waves due tomorrow from the S'th, tending SE in direction on Friday, dropping back from 2ft on Saturday.
Sunday will still see W/SW winds and tiny surf with no major surf at all due through the rest of the period until a very inconsistent W/SW groundswell fills in Wednesday. The source of this swell is poorly aligned for us, so all in all the outlook is poor.
