Slow outlook ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 28th May)
Best Days: Selected locations tomorrow, possibly early Friday, Saturday
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Mid-period S swell tomorrow with light W/SW-SW winds, easing Sun with N/NW tending variable W winds
- Tiny W/SW groundswell for Wed PM, easing Thu AM
Recap
Bumpy small surf yesterday morning, kicking into the afternoon, holding today to a sloppy 2-3ft with a gusty onshore wind.
This weekend and next week (May 29 – Jun 4)
The weak front linked to the current onshore, mid-period swell was still drawing up strong S/SW winds through our southern swell window this morning on the polar shelf.
This should see S'ly energy holding 2-3ft through tomorrow, easing back from a smaller 2ft Sunday morning.
Winds unfortunately look to linger out of the W/SW-SW through the morning tomorrow, creating bumpy/lumpy conditions for the keen, N/NW tending variable W on Sunday.
As touched on the last couple of updates, there's nothing too significant inbound for next week with the Southern Ocean falling relatively quiet.
A temporary and distant polar front firing up east of the Heard Island region this afternoon may generate a tiny kick to 1-1.5ft on Wednesday afternoon, fading Thursday.
Conditions will be clean with a persistent N/NW breeze Wednesday, N'ly at dawn Thursday ahead of a SW change.
Following this change there's a bit more action forecast through the Southern Ocean but most of the activity will be dropping south-east through our swell window which isn't ideal. More on this next week though. Have a great weekend!
