Recap

Poor conditions with an onshore change and choppy surf yesterday, cleaner today and ideal for beginners.

This week and weekend (Apr 22 - 25)

Up, up up, that's the trend over the coming days, with a 'bombing' low currently pushing in from the west, generating a weakening fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds through our western swell window.

Immediately on top of the low, a secondary front will produce additional severe-gale W/SW winds, helping boost the swell that's due to peak on Friday.

Tomorrow morning will likely start tiny, but we'll see a steady increase in size and power through the day as mid-period W/SW energy develops into groundswell.

Size wise Clifton should reach an easy 4ft by late in the day tomorrow along with a gusty NW tending W/NW breeze.

The swell proper is due Friday with sets to 5-6ft across Clifton but with that westerly direction.

The swell will ease into Saturday back from 3-4ft and some reinforcing swell will come in from a slight better SW angle but be weaker mid-period energy. Winds on Friday look favourable most of the day and out of the NW-W/NW, then N/NW on Saturday ahead of a change.

The reinforcing mid-period SW swell should keep Clifton around a fun 3ft on Sunday, if not a touch bigger into the afternoon and Monday morning as the front strengthens while pushing up past us.

Winds look best in the mornings, with bumpy conditions into the afternoon, but we'll look at this closer on Friday.

Beyond this the outlook goes quiet so make the most of the coming surf!
