Average period ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 18th September)
Best Days: No great days
Recap
A strong kick in S/SW groundswell on Saturday with great conditions for selected spots, easing back from 2-3ft yesterday. Today we've got leftover but fun, easing 1-2ft sets.
This week and weekend (Sep 21 - 27)
I hope you made the most of the weekend's and this morning's waves as the outlook isn't great at all, as discussed last week.
All the activity will be north of us this week, with a strong and slow moving mid-latitude low moving through the Bight due to drift south-east tomorrow but stay across Victoria.
Once it fully clears east a very weak fetch of short-lived S/SE winds will be projected up and into us Wednesday evening, but there's no swell due off this.
Tomorrow might offer a wave for beginners along with a N-N/NE breeze, shifting W into the afternoon and then early N/NW Wednesday ahead of a strong SW change linked to the low pushing east.
Thursday will then be average with a lingering W/SW breeze, shifting S/SE and weak 1-2ft of S'ly windswell.
Into the weekend, a strengthening polar front pushing up and over us will kick up a low quality S/SW windswell, but with strong S/SW winds.
At this stage we're looking at building surf Saturday to 3ft or so, easing from a similar size on Sunday. By the time winds swing back offshore on Monday we'll be looking at smaller 2ft leftovers.
Longer term, an upper level ridge moving in next week won't be conducive to generating any decent swell either, so all in all the current period isn't too flash. More on this Wednesday.
