Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 16th January)

Best Days: Tuesday next week

Recap

Our new long-period and flukey W/SW groundswell came in at a good 2ft yesterday morning with clean conditions, while this morning it was back to tiny surf with an onshore breeze.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Jan 16 - 20)

Unfortunately the coming period still remains void of any surf until early next week.

Conditions should improve into tomorrow and Friday but the surf will be tiny to flat.

The weekend will see the swell bottom out, but moving into early next week, a good new W/SW groundswell is on the cards.

A strong low forming in our far swell window north of the Heard Island region will dip east-southeast and more into our swell window on Friday, with a fetch of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds due to be generated in our western swell window until Saturday morning.

A fun pulse of W/SW groundswell should be produced, arriving Monday and building to a good 2ft across Clifton into the afternoon, if not for the odd sneaky bigger one.

Conditions will be clean early ahead of the swell with a NW offshore, but a weak S/SW change will move through mid-late morning as the swell starts to build, followed by fresh SE sea breezes.

Tuesday will be cleaner with a N/NE offshore and small easing 1-2ft sets.

A small lift in S/SW swell may be seen mid-late week, though winds look an issue at this stage. More on this Friday.
