Plenty of swell to come, clean from late tomorrow
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 29th September)
Best Days: Late Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, possibly Wednesday (winds pending)
Recap
Good amounts of leftover S/SW groundswell yesterday morning to 2-3ft with offshore winds, while today a new W/SW swell has moved in keeping 2-3ft sets hitting the region.
This weekend and next week (Sep 30 – Oct 6)
Looking at the weekend's swell, and the strong polar frontal progression generating it is currently south of WA.
A great fetch of W/SW gales are being generated through our western swell window, with satellite observations picking up slightly stronger core winds.
This front will push towards and across us with strength tomorrow morning, generating an initial increase in mid-period W/SW swell followed by stronger groundswell into the mid-late afternoon.
We should see Clifton building from 2-3ft during the morning to 3-4ft later in the day, easing back into Sunday.
Winds will be poor through the morning tomorrow with a gusty W/SW-SW breeze, but another approaching front will swing winds back to the W/NW right before dark.
This secondary approaching front will generate a very impressive fetch of elongated and broad W/NW tending W'ly gales through our western swell window from this evening through Sunday, with weaker activity to follow.
This will result in a prolonged and good W/SW groundswell event from Sunday through mid-next week.
Clifton should hold around a consistent 3ft, with 4ft sets at times from Sunday through Monday, easing back 3ft Tuesday morning, smaller Wednesday.
Winds on Sunday look to hold from the W/NW all day, with NW tending W/NW winds Monday and Tuesday, with Wednesday possibly seeing an onshore change. We'll have a closer look at this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
