Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 20th September)

Best Days: Beginners Thursday morning, Friday afternoon, beginners Saturday morning

Recap

An increase in new W/SW groundswell but the onshore change moved through at dawn, creating poor conditions. This morning the surf was much cleaner with a reinforcing SW groundswell and easing 2-3ft sets.

This week and weekend (Sep 21 – 24)

This morning's reinforcing SW swell will fade right back overnight leaving tiny 1ft+ leftovers tomorrow with offshore winds.

Our small W/SW swell for Friday afternoon is still on track, with a weakening and slow moving mid-latitude low that's currently south of WA producing a fetch of strong W/SW winds in our swell window.

The low will weaken while tracking further east-southeast this evening, with a small fun 1-2ft wave due into Friday afternoon with NW tending variable winds.

The swell is expected to ease back through Saturday from 1-1.5ft with offshore NW winds.

From here the surf will remain tiny until we see a mid-latitude low moving in from the west and across us later Monday, bringing an onshore change and increase in small S'ly swell. But the models are still divergent on this system and the resultant swell, so check back here Friday for an update on this.
