Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 6th September)

Best Days: Thursday morning, early Friday, Saturday protected spots, Sunday

Recap

A strong W/SW groundswell provided 3ft surf yesterday morning, but more size should have been seen into the afternoon.

This morning's larger SW swell came in strong with waves in protected spots with offshore winds.

This week and weekend (Sep 7 - 10)

Today's swell should drop into tomorrow, but with a strong SW fetch continuing to be aimed through our swell window this morning, we should still see 3-4ft sets early with a NW offshore ahead of a late afternoon SW change.

This change will be linked to a vigorous polar frontal system pushing up and into us, with it forming as a tight intense polar low today, south-southwest of WA.

We should see a moderate sized SW swell generated for Friday morning, but a secondary fetch of S/SW gales through our southern swell window during the afternoon Friday and evening due to produce some larger S/SW swell for Saturday.

Friday's swell looks to come in around 3-4ft, while Saturday's swell should come in at a solid 4-5ft out of the S/SW, easing later.

Winds Friday look to be W'ly for a period, before tending SW, while Saturday looks onshore with W/SW-SW breezes.

The S/SW swell is expected to ease through Sunday from 3ft or so with offshore winds, with no new swell due until Tuesday. This will be a distant and long-range number, but more on this Friday.
