Fun small swells continue
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 5th July)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday morning, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
Recap
Small fun waves yesterday and this morning, while more consistent sets in that upper 2ft range should be showing across Clifton this afternoon with a new W/SW groundswell.
This week and weekend (Jul 6 - 9)
Today's increasing in inconsistent W/SW groundswell should peak this evening and ease off from an inconsistent 1-2ft tomorrow morning with an early W/NW offshore, swinging W/SW around midday.
Into Friday we're likely to see a weaker and peakier S/SW swell coming in at 1-2ft during the morning, generated by a weak fetch of S/SW winds through our swell window tomorrow as a weak low stalls south-east of us.
The swell will fade through the day, but the morning is looking super fun with light offshore winds.
Saturday morning is looking tiny, but later in the day and more so Sunday we should see a new SW groundswell filling in.
This swell is being generated by a strong polar low currently east of Heard Island, with a fetch of pre-frontal and post-frontal gales moving east through our swell window.
The low will weaken south of WA, resulting in an inconsistent SW groundswell to spread out towards us, kicking to 2ft on the sets by dark Saturday, holding a similar size Sunday.
Winds are looking offshore through most of the weekend creating clean conditions.
Into early next week we've got a mix of swells on the cards, generated by a flurry of strong but unconsolidated polar frontal activity through our swell window.
Firstly a polar low should generate a SW swell for Monday morning, but this will be mixed in with mid-period W/SW energy front fronts passing over and under us Sunday and Monday.
At this stage the size is hard to pin down but we're likely to see surf in the 2-3ft range. We'll have a closer look at this Friday.
