Small swells for the weekend, best swell Tuesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 12th May)
Best Days: Early Saturday and Sunday mornings, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning
Recap
Tiny waves yesterday with early offshores, while today a fun new swell has filled in with clean conditions ahead of variable breezes into the afternoon
This weekend and next week (May 13 – 19)
Today's increase in SW groundswell was generated by a broad but relatively weak polar frontal progression through the Southern Ocean, south of the country the last couple of days.
Two seperate pulses of swell have been generated, with today's expected to ease back from 1-2ft tomorrow morning, with a secondary kick Sunday back to a similar size.
Winds tomorrow are still looking poor as a weakening surface trough sitting to our west slowly drifts east. We may see an early W'ly breeze but this is due to swing onshore through the morning.
Sunday looks similar with early W/NW breezes likely, tending weaker onshore through the day.
Monday is looking tiny as the SW swell fades with variable winds through the morning.
Our better pulse of SW groundswell for Tuesday is still on track, with a polar fetch of W/NW gales due to move ideally through our south-western swell window over the weekend.
The groundswell is expected to arrive overnight Monday and peaky Tuesday to a consistent 2ft, if not for the odd bigger one along with N/NW tending SE winds.
The swell will ease through Wednesday and Thursday with a possible new S/SW groundswell Friday from another strong but late forming polar front. More on this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
