Fun swell filling in tomorrow, tiny weekend
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th March)
Best Days: Tomorrow mid-morning to early afternoon, early Friday beginners, next Wednesday
Recap
Monday afternoon's pulse of new SW groundswell held into Tuesday morning with good clean 2ft sets across Clifton, back to 1-1.5ft this morning.
This week and weekend (Mar 9 - 12)
Tomorrow's new pulse of SW groundswell is looking good, with the polar low generating it over the last couple of days weakening under us along the polar shelf last night and this morning.
Early morning only tiny waves are expected, with the swell arriving mid-morning and building to 2ft through the afternoon.
Winds should hold off for the arrival of the swell with a moderate N/NW'ly, tending variable ahead of sea breezes mid-afternoon.
Friday looks tiny with easing 1-1.5ft sets and light offshore breezes before a S'ly change moves through.
Looking at the weekend and the swell should continue to ease, with poor SE winds Saturday and E/NE winds on Sunday.
Longer term into next week, and some small to tiny SW swell is due Monday from a weak polar frontal system over the coming days, but a better but inconsistent SW groundswell should be seen Wednesday.
This swell will be generated over the weekend by a strong low forming south-west of WA, generating a fetch of severe-gale W'ly winds through our far swell window. We're probably looking at 1-2ft sets at the swells peak, but more on this Friday.
