Best Days: No great days, Friday morning, Saturday morning, Sunday morning
Recap:
Tiny Saturday ahead of a late kick in new swell from a vigorous polar low passing under us.
The swell from this low peaked Sunday morning to 3-5ft across Clifton with onshore S/SW winds, leaving protected locations with the only clean options.
A reinforcing S/SW swell through the day has kept 3ft waves hitting the coast into this morning along with a light morning offshore wind.
This week (Jan 17 - 20)
The S'ly swell seen this morning should be only tiny tomorrow morning with 1-1.5ft sets max across the coast.
Our small SE swell event is still on track with a stationary fetch of strong SE winds through our swell window being observed by satellite.
This fetch will swing out of our swell window from this evening, with the swell due to arrive through tomorrow afternoon, peak Wednesday and hold Thursday before easing Friday.
A late kick to 1-2ft is expected tomorrow, coming in around an inconsistent 2ft Wednesday and Thursday.
Unfortunately winds will be onshore Wednesday with a change moving through associated with a relatively weak polar front.
This front however will kick up some new SW swell later in the day and Thursday morning to 2ft or so.
Winds look to linger out of the SW Thursday morning though, with SE sea breezes, tiny Friday.
Our models are showing some larger SE swell late week, but the source of this is a small persistent polar fetch of SE winds. Instead small 1-2ft leftovers out of the SE are due with a morning offshore Friday, persisting Saturday and Sunday morning around a similar size.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards until mid-late week. More on this Wednesday.
