Easing surf, with some fun swell for next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 19th October)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Sunday morning, Tuesday, later next week
Recap
Tiny surf yesterday, while today out expected mix of long-range and mid-period W/SW swells have come in at 2-3ft with W-W/NW winds.
This week and weekend (Oct 20 - 23)
Today's good mix of swells will fade from later today, dropping off steadily tomorrow morning from 2ft across Clifton. Winds will be much more favourable for other spots as well with a N'ly breeze persisting for most of the day.
Friday morning is still set to be tiny, with an onshore change before lunch and a small afternoon increase in swell.
This swell, which is expected to hold Saturday around 1-2ft will again be ruined by onshore S/SW winds Saturday.
Sunday morning should reveal cleaner conditions with an early W/NW'ly and easing 1-2ft sets.
Next week onwards (Oct 24 onwards)
A good broad pre-frontal fetch of W/NW gales projecting from the Indian Ocean down towards the polar shelf and through our south-western swell window should produce a fun SW swell for Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
Good 2ft sets are due Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, with onshore winds on the former, and NW tending NE winds on the later.
Tiny surf is then due for the rest of the week until Thursday afternoon/Friday.
A new inconsistent long-period W/SW groundswell is due across the state, produced by a strong polar low, similar to the one generating today's swell, firing up around the Heard Island region. Good 2-3ft sets are likely again, with favourable winds, but more on this Friday.
