Good W/SW swell for Wednesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 17th October)
Best Days: Wednesday, early Thursday, early Sunday
Recap
A small pulse of swell for Saturday before becoming tiny into yesterday, continuing that trend today.
This week (Oct 18 - 21)
Our good W/SW groundswell for Wednesday is still on track with a vigorous polar low firing up around the Heard Island region over the weekend, producing a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds in our far swell window, before projecting up towards the Bight.
The weakening but broad low will move across and under us tomorrow afternoon and evening, with a mix of mid-period and long-period W/SW groundswell due to peak Wednesday.
Clifton should see 2-3ft sets with offshore W/NW winds for most of the day.
The swell will ease quickly overnight and further from 2ft Thursday under N/NW winds.
Friday morning will be tiny ahead of an onshore change, with a small lift in W/SW swell following this.
A more distant SW swell from the base of the front bringing Friday's change is expected on Saturday, with 2ft sets across Clifton, but S/SW winds will continue to create poor conditions.
Sunday will be cleaner but small and easing. Longer term some fun W/SW swell is due early next week followed by a more distant but stronger swell late week, but more on this Wednesday.
