Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 23rd September)

Best Days: Tiny swells, best for beginners Sunday, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning

Recap

Fading surf yesterday with an onshore wind moving in shortly after dawn and tiny waves today. Much better options on the East Coast.

This weekend and next week (Sep 24 - 30)

Unfortunately the outlook is pretty grim for our region with the westerly storm track being focussed too far west or north of us to generate any meaningful swell.

Clifton isn't expected to go flat, but will struggle to get above 1ft. Conditions are generally good for beginners with offshore winds each morning and the best days to aim for would be Sunday, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

This is from distant pulses of W/SW groundswell filling in.

The best pulse looks to arrive for Thursday morning, possibly seeing 1-2ft sets across the coast through the morning. This will be generated by a strong frontal system firing up south-west of WA this weekend, producing a W/SW fetch just in our western swell window.

The swell will be inconsistent but conditions clean with N'ly tending NW breeze.

Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards with an intense 'bombing low' forming in the Bight next week being too north in latitude. Therefore check the East Coast forecast for better options. Have a great weekend!
