Fun waves to end the week, good swells early next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 31st August)
Best Days:
Recap
A good clean strong S/SW groundswell yesterday morning coming in at 3ft across Clifton, while today the swell has continued to hold a good 2-3ft.
This week and weekend (Sep 1 - 4)
Remember: TODAY is your LAST CHANCE to win a trip for two to the Banyak Islands. More information here.
Tomorrow's inconsistent SW groundswell is still on track, with inconsistent but good 2-3ft sets due across Clifton tomorrow, easing back slowly from 2ft Friday.
Conditions will be best early tomorrow with a NW'ly, tending W'ly through the mid-morning as a weak low pushes past us. Friday will then see NW tending E/NE winds.
Into the weekend, Saturday will be small and fading from 1-2ft with morning offshores.
Sunday is expected to be tiny early, but into the afternoon a new small and inconsistent W/SW groundswell should be seen. Only 1-2ft sets are due but W/NW winds will create clean conditions all day.
Next week onwards (Sep 5 onwards)
Of greater importance is the development of two separate and much stronger polar lows south-west of WA later this week and through the weekend.
An initial fetch of severe-gale W/NW gales will set in motion an active sea state for a more elongated fetch of severe-gale W/NW winds to move over, generating a moderate sized W/SW groundswell for Monday.
This swell should build to strong 3ft through the afternoon, holding a similar size Tuesday morning.
The progression will stall slightly to our south-west Monday, keeping plenty of swell hitting into Tuesday afternoon, but a secondary intensification an push up into us Tuesday evening should generate another good pulse of SW groundswell for Wednesday.
Winds are the make or break, with NW breezes Monday, N/NW tending late SW Tuesday and then possibly from the W/NW early Wednesday. We'll have another look at this Friday.
