Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 16th December)

Best Days: Monday for keen surfers in protected spots, Tuesday

Recap

Tiny waves yesterday for beginners, while today was near flat and with a light morning onshore breeze which has since strengthened.

This week and weekend (Dec 17 - 20)

Tiny waves are due to continue through tomorrow but with cleaner conditions, while a very inconsistent and small W/SW groundswell is due Friday to maybe 1ft across Clifton. Unfortunately winds are due to be onshore from the SW, tending fresher S/SE through the day.

Saturday should see the tiny swell fade from 1ft with early light N/NW winds, freshening from the E/NE through the day.

Sunday isn't looking any better swell wise, so rest up.

Next week onwards (Dec 21 onwards)

There's some good news for early next week, with an intense mid-latitude low that's due to develop under WA Friday evening and push east through the Bight, now expected to re-intensify right under us during Sunday afternoon and evening.

A fetch of severe-gale SW winds should produce a moderate sized SW groundswell for Monday, building from 2-3ft to 3-4ft into the afternoon and then easing from 3ft or so Tuesday morning.

W/SW winds are likely Monday with better NW offshores ahead of SE sea breezes into Tuesday. We'll have another look at this on Friday though.
