Fading surf, small swells next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 27th November)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday for beginners, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday
Recap
Average winds and a new building W/SW swell to 2-3ft across Clifton yesterday, while today the swell was still in the 2-3ft range but with offshore winds.
This weekend and next week (Nov 28 – Dec 4)
Make the most of tomorrow as we'll enter a tiny period until the middle of next week.
Today's W/SW groundswell will ease off slowly through the weekend from 2ft under NW offshores, tending variable into the afternoon, with only a slight chance for a sea breeze.
Sunday will then be tiny but ideal for beginners with NW offshores ahead of a shallow onshore afternoon change.
Near flat conditions will likely develop through Monday with N/NE winds, favouring more exposed coasts.
Into Tuesday a slight kick in W/SW swell is due from a weak polar low currently to the south of WA, with 1ft to possibly 2ft sets expected. A slightly stronger low taking a similar track should produce a secondary slightly bigger pulse for Wednesday to 2ft but winds look as if they'll be onshore from the W/SW early, possibly tending W/NW into the afternoon as a front approaches.
Also in the mix Wednesday should be some unfavourably aligned W/SW swell from a relatively weak but long lived mid-latitude front pushing through the Bight early next week.
Again only 1-2ft of swell is likely, with a secondary reinforcing pulse to a similar size due Thursday from a more southerly and better aligned front.
Beyond this weak frontal activity will stop Clifton from going flat but we're only looking at 1-2ft pulses of surf. Therefore make the most of tomorrow morning and check back here Monday for the latest update. Have a great weekend!
