Dicey weekend, better next week with good swells to come
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 6th Novemer)
Best Days: Sunday for beginners, Monday, possibly early Tuesday, Wednesday
Recap
Tiny leftover S'ly swell yesterday to 1-1.5ft with clean conditions, while today started slow with variable winds early, but a stronger groundswell has since filled in but with S/SE onshores.
This weekend (Nov 7 – 8)
This afternoon's kick in SW groundswell should reach 2ft+ across Clifton before easing back from 2ft tomorrow but winds again looks suss with a fresh SW tending S/SW breeze due to spoil things.
Sunday looks cleaner but the swell looks to be easing from a small to tiny 1-1.5ft or so, ideal for a beginner.
Monday onwards (Nov 9 onwards)
The 'bombing low' generating Monday afternoon's strong kick in inconsistent W/SW groundswell is tracking nicely, with satellite observations picking up a fetch of 50-60kt W/NW winds aimed ideally through our swell window.
The low will continue tracking east-southeast towards us while weakening this evening, with a good W/SW groundswell due to build from 2ft Monday morning to 2-3ft into the afternoon.
Conditions look nice and clean with NW tending W'ly breeze, favouring more protected spots.
More interestingly, the follow up polar frontal activity in the wake of the low will be much broader, elongated and push right under us through our south-western swell window but with less strength.
This should produce a larger and more consistent SW groundswell pulse for Tuesday to a strong 3ft+, easing from 3ft or so Wednesday morning.
Winds Tuesday are again looking dicey with a fresh SW'ly due, and only a slim chance for an early W'ly. We'll have a closer look at this Monday. Wednesday looks good though with light N'y tending NE winds.
Longer term the storm track looks to be a little too north to be ideal, but check back here Monday for an update on this. Have a great weekend!
