Fun waves for the period, solid Tuesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 21st October)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday, Saturday morning, Sunday, Tuesday
Recap
Clean tiny beginner waves yesterday, while today an onshore change and tiny swell have left no options for a surf. A slight kick in windswell is due later today but with no quality.
This week and weekend (Oct 22 – 25)
Our better SW groundswell pulse for tomorrow is still on track with Clifton expected to offer 2-3ft waves through the morning, with more consistent and stronger 3ft sets into the afternoon as the swell peaks.
A drop in then due into Thursday from 2-3ft or so.
Winds will be best through the mornings with a NW tending W/SW breeze tomorrow and then NW tending variable winds Friday, although some form of onshore is likely mid-late afternoon.
Into the weekend, a small reinforcing SW groundswell is due Saturday, ahead of a stronger pulse Sunday morning, from a couple of polar storms firing up over the coming days in our swell window.
Saturday's swell only looks to be in the 1-2ft range or so across Clifton, but the stronger low linked to Sunday morning's swell should produce better 2ft+ waves, before easing into the afternoon and becoming tiny Monday morning.
Winds Saturday morning should be offshore ahead of S/SE sea breezes, and then N/NW tending variable breezes Sunday ahead of a possible late onshore change.
Next week onwards (Oct 26 onwards)
A strong pulse of S/SW groundswell noted on Monday for early next week is still well and truly on the cards.
A vigorous polar frontal progression is forecast to fire up in our prime swell window over the weekend, with a fetch of gale to severe-gale SW winds being projected up through the Tasman Sea.
This should generate a large S/SW groundswell, building later Monday and peaking Tuesday morning in the 4-5ft+ range. Winds look onshore Monday but variable Tuesday, although we'll have a closer look at this on Friday.
