Good swell for the weekend, cleanest Sunday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 17th July)
Best Days: Saturday protected spots, Sunday, Monday, early Tuesday, Thursday
Recap
Good fun easing S/SE swell from 2-3ft yesterday morning with favourable winds, while today was smaller and onshore from the get go, leaving no options for a decent wave.
This weekend and next week (Jul 18 – 24)
The weekend will provide plenty of size, but the models look to be over-forecasting the peak a little.
A strong polar front currently to our south is projecting a fetch of SW gales through our southern swell window while projecting north-east.
This should produce a strong pulse of S/SW groundswell for tomorrow, coming in at 3-5ft across Clifton before easing back from 3ft on the sets Sunday morning.
Winds should be offshore from the W/NW for a short period tomorrow morning before tending S/SW and then possible back to the W/NW later in the day with an approaching front. Sunday looks much better with a N/NW tending W/NW breeze.
Monday's kick in SW swell is still on the cards, but even though the low generating it will see winds generated in the severe-gale to storm-force range, the south-east track and westerly bias. This should still offer 2ft to possibly 3ft waves with offshore NW tending variable winds before fading Tuesday.
There's nothing significant for the rest of the period besides a small and inconsistent W/SW groundswell for Thursday to 1-2ft, but we'll look at this closer on Monday. Have a great weekend!
