Lots of swell to come with windows of clean conditions
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 15th July)
Best Days: Thursday morning, early Friday, early Saturday, Sunday, Monday afternoon
Recap
Solid kick in swell to 3-4ft yesterday with a period of W'ly winds opening up selected locations for a bit of a wave. Today the swell was smaller and back from 3ft+ or so as onshore winds continued to create average conditions.
This week and weekend (Jul 16 – 19)
Today a mix of S/SW and S/SE swell were in the water, and we should see the S/SE swell easing back from the 2ft+ range tomorrow morning with morning NW winds ahead of a shift to the W/SW into the afternoon.
Our pulse of SW groundswell due into Friday may be seen later in the day Thursday, kicking to 2ft, with Friday offering fun 3ft sets. A secondary pulse is still on cards for Saturday, but now to a bigger size.
This will be produced by a strengthening polar front pushing up towards us during Thursday evening and Friday, with better 3-4ft surf due across Clifton.
A drop in size is then due Sunday from 3ft or so on the sets.
Winds on Friday should be offshore from the NW early ahead of a strong S'ly change and then W/NW winds Saturday morning before again swinging SW. Sunday will be the best with NW tending W/NW winds.
Next week onwards (Jul 20 onwards)
Besides a good pulse of SW groundswell Monday afternoon from an unfavourably tracking but strong polar low, there's nothing too major on the cards for next week at all. Therefore make the most of the coming days waves, and check back Friday for an update.
