Small until a larger swell Sunday afternoon
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 24th June)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Saturday, Sunday, Monday morning, Tuesday
Recap
Tiny yesterday and a better SW groundswell due today to 2-3ft, came in a little under expectations with small 1-2ft waves across Clifton.
This week and weekend (Jun 25 – 28)
Today's swell is expected to drop through tomorrow back from 1-2ft under offshore winds, with Friday due to be tiny and clean.
The weekend forecast is still really tricky, but, a vigorous polar low pushing in from the west has been upgraded in intensity, with a larger consistent kick in swell due Sunday.
Firstly though a very inconsistent long-range W/SW groundswell is due Saturday from the incredible frontal activity in the Indian Ocean, but only very inconsistent 2ft to possibly 3ft across Clifton.
A better increase in long-range W/SW groundswell is due to build through Sunday, generated today and tomorrow by the secondary stage of the frontal progression, aiming a fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds through our western swell window.
This swell along should build to a better and inconsistent 3ft to occasionally 4ft across Clifton, but will be over-powered by a an intense polar low shedding off the progression, projecting a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds through our swell window Friday and Saturday.
This should produce a solid W/SW groundswell pulse for Sunday afternoon across Clifton, reaching 4-5ft.
A slow drop in size is then due from Monday but this will slowed by continuous pre-frontal W/NW gales pushing through our swell window Sunday and then Monday.
Winds on Saturday look good with offshore NW tending W/NW breezes, then Sunday as the large swell kicks, should see strengthening W/NW winds persisting all day. Monday and Tuesday should remain clean, besides a possible W/SW'ly Monday afternoon.
Longer term we may see a fun new SW groundswell later in the week, but more on this Friday.
