Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 24th April)

Best Days: Sunday, Tuesday morning, the rest of the week for small clean waves

Recap

Tiny waves through yesterday morning before a good new W/SW groundswell filled in through the afternoon, kicking to 2-3ft across Clifton as winds tended light E'ly. Today the swell held a similar size during the morning under light offshore winds.

This weekend and next week (Apr 25 – May 1)

Give tomorrow a miss as the swell will be smaller and a fresh onshore S/SW change is due shortly after dawn. There's the chance for an early W'ly but it won't be worth it.

Come Sunday our new SW groundswell is still on track, generated by a good looking polar low currently sitting to our south-west. This low should kick up 2ft to possibly 3ft of swell for Sunday morning as winds improve and swing W/NW through the morning, persisting most of the day ahead of a late SW change.

A better looking polar front pushing in from the west over the weekend looks to generate a better SW groundswell for Monday to 2-3ft. Winds unfortunately look to fresh onshore from the W/SW tending SW as the front linked to the swell pushes through.

On the backside of the swell winds should swing back W/NW with a clean 2ft of swell due across Clifton.

Into the rest of the week there's nothing significant expected with a series of polar fronts tracking around the bottom of a large blocking high to our west due to keep 1-2ft sets hitting Clifton with favourable winds. More on this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
